CURING THE POWERLESS
A photographic exhibition at the No End Contemporary Gallery, Linden 2019

As part of the group exhibition exploring narratives & dialogues surrounding power & the lack thereof two photographs of spaces were selected by the curatorial team of No End.

The images shown here were taken whilst travelling and tell of removal of power through the visual language of sign and spaces belonging to a passenger passing through places. Each photograph editted in such a manner as to carry over a glitch of the double take about instruction of behaviour in place or the slow zoom focused blur of going nowhere and everywhere.

The framing of the work was a further expression of the artists discovery and exploration of 'power' in the making of frames deconstructed from found golden aluminium frames that were then reconstructed to be edge-less sliders in which the image seemed to pass by and be able to leak out - the delicacy of the balance of the entire construction delivered a power to the object of the image itself within the space of the gallery - as self determining its identity and gravity in conjunction with the titles of the work which contained the power of the memory which exists within the moments of their creation.

I was also part of the panel discussion in which we discussed the narratives of power in the current socio-political context of South Africa.
